Making the Leap into Recruitment A Unique Story Making the Leap into Recruitment: A Unique Story 10 Aug 2013 As with most people that enter the recruitment industry, however my story is quite literal! Before Recruitment   Fresh out of university, I started my career in the banking industry. I’d always had an interest in the accountancy and finance world and started my first role in one of the branches. Incidentally, this job developed my sales skills and I got a buzz from continuously exceeding targets. As a Business Advisor, my role was to consult with entrepreneurs and help their business develop and grow. Coupling my consultative skills with my sales focus, I determined that a career in recruitment would be the most logical step for me. I researched several companies that I wanted to approach and narrowed that list down to one â€" Eden Scott. Seeing an independent business that had consistently grew 80% to 100% per year since start up. Getting The Job After meeting Lindsey Boxall and the Directors, I immediately knew I was making the right decision. I went for a run afterwards and decided to tackle Arthur's Seat. With it being an early spring evening, darkness set in quickly and I accidentally fell over the rocks at the top of the hill. After falling a total of 110 feet, a gorse bush broke my fall â€" which probably saved my life! After 16 hours I was found the next morning. I was lucky to have only endured a few broken bones and some minor injuries, however the fantastic team at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary brought be back to a full recovery.   The Next Step I’ve now been a recruitment consultant at Eden Scott and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I'm currently supporting a senior member of the team, working on contract and temporary roles. Recruitment consultancy isn’t just your average sales role. It requires real business acumen and industry understanding; not only for recruitment, but the sector you specialise in. I’ve really been supported in my first month as a recruitment consultant and enjoy interacting with both clients and candidates. Needless to say, I don’t go for a jog up Arthur’s Seat after work anymore!
